2022 Happy To Be Here

7:45 AM For some reason, I was surprised to see so many people at the beach this morning. I don't know why this surprised me, it is a vacation week. There weren’t a lot of people, just more than I expected. It is also beautiful and peaceful. The sounds of the waves crashing and mumbling their way in and out from the shore keeps away any noise of cars traveling by. I came to the beach to try to catch the sunrise but with cloud cover I either missed it or couldn't see it. It has been a long time since I came to the beach. I'm writing this while sitting on a cold, damp rock in North Hampton, NH. It is utterly enjoyable to just 'be' for a little while. Water moved rocks during a recent storm. People move rocks too. 8:31 AM I walked about 2.4 miles back and forth along the sidewalk and on the rocks and sand. Weird work and sleep times meant that this morning I was awake around three. This left me ready to nap around ten so I rested for a short time. It also meant I was ready to crash around five in the afternoon and I did, napping for about an hour. It was just the rest I needed to be able to finish watching the movie Willow with the family; they had started watching it during the week. We also watched the first episode of the new Willow series . So good! Other happy things from today: Being awake so early allowed for a trip to the store before the sun rose and getting a few things. It was nice to avoid the crowds. When I left the sky was lovely and the sun was shining.  Later, I went out shopping again, this time with Keziah, and got to spend time in line. Never would I have imagined as a child or young teen that someday I would be sitting in a pavilion almost every August, wearing medieval clothes.  The SCA found me when I was 19.  At that age, I did not think that I would still be playing in the SCA at this age.  Now, many, many years later I raised two children within this community and my daughter is raising her son here too.  Other happy things from today: --Gideon (my grandson) and Zed (his dad) arrived to join us at Pennsic.  They were tired after the long drive. --Very early this morning Keziah and I got up and did a volunteer shift with the 'Watch'.  This is basically driving around in a golf cart making sure fires are attended and people aren't looking for some kind of help.  We had a radio to call in for more help if needed.  My body wasn't happy about being in the cart for three hours, other than that, it went well. --We saw the sky lighten as the sun rose. ...

Before the clocks moved forward for spring, when I took my lunch break at work I was seeing the sky lighten. Enough time has gone by that it is happening again. This morning on my way back into work the eastern horizon had a warm lavender glow.  Other happy things for today: Sometimes friends just need an ear to talk to. Today I was that ear, listening as TF talked about a work problem. I'm thankful that I could be there for her. I might be flying to Texas soon. For weeks I have been having a hard time weaving because the tension is off with my threads on the loom.  Sagging threads.  :( For day 94 of the A&S challenge I attempted to fix this problem. It is not fixed. I did find a way to wing it though, and weaving was much more pleasant on this Weaving Wednesday.I did two of the repeating pattern.  Talking with a fellow employee this morning he couldn't understand why anyone would want to volunteer to go home after getting to work.  "You go to all that trouble to get ready, why turn around and go home?" he said.  My response after deciding to leave early, "I have things to do at home."  So I left work early, went home, packed up some stuff, and headed for the studio.  Other things I am happy about today: At the studio I sewed, embroidered, and did some rug braiding.  Day 39 A&S challenge done! At the studio I took a nap. At the studio I watched the sun rise. I keep a flannel shirt and pair of slippers at the studio.  It kind of feels a little like Mr. Rogers when I get there and change.  I do something similar at home, somehow it feels more Mr. Rogers-esque at the studio.  "It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood." At home I ate, relaxed, and made dinner for the family.  It was a good day.  Cats sleep in some weird ways!...
