Long Day is Long

Image
Enough sleep was achieved for me to work the night, but they didn't need as many people as came in, so I went home. I thought about going to the studio to work on my class, but I stayed home instead. Doing schoolwork was short lived though because I fell asleep again for a nice nap. Later Zed tried to help with one of the assignments but neither of us can figure out what I'm doing wrong. I'm grateful for his help. Other happy things for today: Since I wasn't working, I went to archery practice. My highest score for the day was 49 points! This is not my highest ever (close), but certainly the highest in a long time.  Practice helps. After archery, some friends and I went on a nice hike. The trails were new to us and were also used by ATVs. Thankfully not so many were out today that it was too loud or busy. I'm not sure what this plant is. In the evening my protege and I met up with friends at a bookstore/cafe to celebrate a birthday and listen to some blues....

Pennsic Day 9

Image
Never would I have imagined as a child or young teen that someday I would be sitting in a pavilion almost every August, wearing medieval clothes.  The SCA found me when I was 19.  At that age, I did not think that I would still be playing in the SCA at this age.  Now, many, many years later I raised two children within this community and my daughter is raising her son here too.  Other happy things from today: --Gideon (my grandson) and Zed (his dad) arrived to join us at Pennsic.  They were tired after the long drive. --Very early this morning Keziah and I got up and did a volunteer shift with the 'Watch'.  This is basically driving around in a golf cart making sure fires are attended and people aren't looking for some kind of help.  We had a radio to call in for more help if needed.  My body wasn't happy about being in the cart for three hours, other than that, it went well. --We saw the sky lighten as the sun rose. ...

Gnarly Tree

There were things that I thought I would get done this weekend that didn’t happen. Other things did though, nice relaxing things. Here are some happy things from today: There was a walk today with a friend. We had a nice time on our little hike. There were brooks to cross, ponds to see and views from a hill. One of the things we saw were some white water-lilies. Just a few were blooming. They are a very pretty flower in my opinion. Near a beaver lodge there was a gnarly tree that caught my eye. It makes me think of a tall campfire. After the walk I went to the studio and made straps for my Viking dress. Soon it will be done and I will take pictures. ☮ Currently reading: Pocketful of Miracles: Prayer, Meditations, and Affirmations to Nurture Your Spirit Every Day of the Year , Joan Borysenko. Currently listening to: Seven Surrenders , by Ada Palmer Thank you for being part of my happy things. Stay safe.

Friday!

Gift giving has never been something I have been strong at. Every once in a while though I come up with something. Today I stood in line at the post office for quite a while to send a small package to a dear friend. Hopefully there will be no fitting or allergy problems and they will like it. For now, I am happy to have thought of something and acted on it.  Other happy things from today: Gideon and I went out for a nice walk.  The weather was beautiful, t-shirt weather.  We passed some kind of tree that had some good sized buds on it.  The ice is melting on the little pond we walked by. There is a huge gorgeous sycamore tree that I asked Keziah to stand in front of for size.  I've been meaning to take a picture of it for weeks, today I remembered!   Cat pets! We spent a bunch of time at the studio.  I wanted to work on the hat but lacked the space since Gideon was doing school work.  Instead I braided for the someday rug.  Day 75...
