Castle

Image
Weaving should be my main goal, but I know my limits. I took Aesop, our dog, for a walk today. The amount of time that walk took, I decided would be the amount of time I would commit to weaving. We walked about an hour and forty minutes. I spent longer than that working on the loom. Goal achieved. Not all that time was weaving because I ended up having to give up (hopefully temporarily) on the red, white and blue band and put the green and white band on the loom instead. I was worried that it would be hard to put a project that had started on one loom and put it onto another. That took up some time, but it seems to be working.  The castle up is what I wove today. About eight inches or so before that was done three years ago. Tomorrow I hope to find a comfortable position and be able to weave more. Other happy things from today: While out this morning, before the walk, there was a bird in a tree that I think was a cat bird. During the walk someone's dog came out and almost a...

Pennsic Day 4

Image
It was another busy day setting up and trying to get organized.  I finally went through the storage trailer that we keep on site and got almost everything labeled as to who it belongs to.  When things are only seen once a year that can be hard.  Other happy things from today: --The common tent is up.  That means we have more shade available during the day and dry space when it rains.  Two nice men from the camp next to us helped us put it up.  Because of covid, we are only keeping two walls up for shade and the others down for air circulation.  --The only things left to finish setup are digging a fire pit and putting some lights in the common tent.  We bought the firewood today so we are ready to burn. --There was a small rain storm that barely got anything wet.  This was followed by beautiful skies. ☮️ Thank you for being part of my happy things.  Stay safe.

Brief

Image
Leaving for work I was struck by the beauty of the almost full moon.  Seeing the night sky is one of the benefits of working nights.  There isn't time to study it, but there is to appreciate it.  Other happy things from today: When I got home from work Bel was asleep in the living room. I decided to follow their example and napped for a short while in my room.  Naps are good. There was a gentle breeze today that was just enough to push the heat away, especially when in the shade. It made my short afternoon walk pleasant when it blew. The first geranium that bloomed had seeds so I picked them. I probably should have done some research first but it is done.  I'm hoping it will bloom again. ☮ Currently reading: Pocketful of Miracles: Prayer, Meditations, and Affirmations to Nurture Your Spirit Every Day of the Year , Joan Borysenko. Thursday

Image
Thursdays are my days of exhaustion. This is not to say that there are no other days that I am tired, but Thursdays are rough as I switch from working nights to sleeping nights. Today I was good and had a nap. Other happy things from today: There is a lot of white clover around the property. I’m hoping it is keeping the bees happy too. Keziah and I took a Zoom workshop about fabric resales. I'm not sure where this will take us, but it is a start towards something. Outside tonight the crescent moon hung low and orange in the sky. ☮ Currently reading: Pocketful of Miracles: Prayer, Meditations, and Affirmations to Nurture Your Spirit Every Day of the Year , Joan Borysenko. Friday the Thirteenth

Image
Keziah and I had plans today. I chose to wake up a little earlier to get some of the little daily things I like to do out of the way. Things like Duo Lingo and reading. Of note I am pleased to say that I finished reading The Middle Ages - A Graphic History. The end of the book and how they sorted through when the Middle Ages ended was my favorite part. Other happy things for today: We pruned the peach tree, Marjorie. Ýes, Keziah named the tree. I don't remember when the best time to prune fruit trees is, but Marjorie needed it so when we had time was the right time.   With patterning help from Keziah I almost finished making a Viking apron dress. It just needs to be hemmed and the straps need to be made.  No pictures until it is ready. The day was hot. After sunset I took a walk. The air felt just a little bit fresher, I knew when I walked near lilacs by the sweet smell, the moon lit the way, and the music of frogs and a whippoorwill serenaded me. The camera...

Memories

Image
When I was a kid, we lived on the outskirts of the White Mountains in New Hampshire. I remember falling asleep to the sounds of crickets and a whippoorwill. Instead of falling asleep, last night I left for work and heard a whippoorwill in the woods outback. For a moment, I was four again, lying in bed imagining some great big bird making that trilling whippoorwill sound over the chirping crickets.  We had a bird identification guide and the picture (drawing) made me think the bird was rather large.  According to the internet , it is a medium sized bird.  Other happy things from today: Another thing that can bring back memories of time gone by is seeing the moon. I seem to have a vague memory from childhood of seeing the moon out during the day and thinking it was a silly time for the moon to be up.   Yesterday I mentioned the smell of the lilacs, today it is here. Many of the blossoms have opened and the tree is spackled with floral splendor. From a distan...

Happy St Patrick's Day

Image
After work I checked on a few things including the greenhouse.  The cat grass is looking good. Even better, some of the marigold seeds I planted are sprouting!   I used seeds from three different places: harvested from a plant in 2020, harvested from a plant that didn't make it in 2021, and harvested from the giant marigold that grew in with the blueberries and strawberries in 2021.  It is the latter that the seeds are sprouting.   Other things I am happy for today: Leaving for work the almost full moon helped to light my way to the car.  When I went outside for break the clouds had started to gently float in front of the moon.   Embroidery won my attention for the A&S challenge.  That marks day 74 as completed.  Well, I didn't quite embroider the full fifteen minutes so I will be watching something on YouTube after I finish writing. Happy St. Patrick's Day!! ☮ Currently reading: Pocketful of Miracles: Prayer, Meditations,...

Weaving Wednesday

Image
Walking outside to go to work tonight I was pleased to see the almost full moon shining down.  It was clear and shone like a beacon.  Other things I am happy for today: Work wasn't busy so a few of us got to odd jobs like moving things around to organize them.  It was a nice break from the front lines. Cats being cute. After work I had to run some errands.  Keziah and Gideon were with me and Keziah mentioned that the Shamrock shakes were back at McDonald's.  So, yes, I went there for lunch and a shamrock shake.  They taste better than I remember. Things in the greenhouse did not seem to freeze last night.  Yay!  I put more plants that aren't doing well in there, hopefully they will improve. It is Weaving Wednesday.  I almost forgot and worked on the latch hook instead.  I'm sure the picture looks much the same as last week, more is done though.  It is starting to get easier for me to do.  I think my weaver's brain is star...

Slow Day

Image
Sometimes things don't go exactly as planned.  Today, for me, that meant I got some chores done and took the rest of the day off.  I had a long todo list that I mostly ignored.  Happy things for today: Aesop and I went for a walk just before sundown.  The sky lit up with violets, oranges, and reds. Daytime moon! I made it to day 40 on the A&S challenge with more of the latch hook. ☮ Currently reading:  Faith Hacker , by James ‘Jim’ Wilcox. Moon

Image
There was a bit more than a dusting of snow on the ground when I went to work in the very early hours.  There was also a beautiful setting moon.  The moon is in a Waxing Gibbous phase according to the internet.  It hung low in the sky like a slightly over full bowl of rice, shining a pale orange glow. Bad moon shot. Other happy things for today: There is a frozen mixed vegetable, pasta, & chicken meal in a bag sort of thing that the family had for dinner last night.  They saved some for me to have for my dinner this afternoon after work.   It was yummy and I am glad I saw it when we were shopping. For day nine of the A&S challenge I worked on the latch hook.  I got two rows done while I watched a show on Netflix.   ☮ Currently reading:  Tracking & The Art of Seeing: How to Read Animal Tracks and Sign , by Paul Rezendes.
