Shoes

A weird thing happened at work today.  I was doing station reset which involves placing large bags onto shelves. While placing one on a top shelf I could see a shadow through the plastic-ish fabric that didn't belong there. Closer inspection revealed a package that someone had zipped between the layers of material of the bag. The package was from August! It has been hiding all this time! Weird, huh? Other happy things from today: One of the first things I do when I get home from work is take my steel toed work shoes off and put on the Adidas slides that TF got me. My back is aching today and this brought back a memory. My dad was a brick mason and wore heavy work boots. When I was little he paid me ten cents to take those boots off when he got home because his back hurt and he didn't want to bend over to do it himself. So, like my dad, my back hurts and changing shoes after work is a good thing. It is a happy memory.  I wonder how much Gideon would charge to take ...

Milkweed Memory

The first snowfall is expected late tonight, just in time for me to go to work. It is supposed to turn into rain before the precipitation is over. I’m not ready. I’m going to do my best to enjoy what I can of this winter, but it will be hard this year. Some happy things from today: Overhearing Gideon, my grandson, practice German I was reminded to practice Spanish.  It is day 1420 on DuoLingo for me! Last week I put an application in for a different position at the company where I work. One of the managers came up to me and told me that the application looked good and she seemed excited for me to have applied. It was thoughtful and kind for her to have done this, I appreciate it. I have the faintest of memories that crept in about milkweed. I think I remember spray painting the empty pods gold with my mom and making Christmas decorations out of them? ☮ Currently reading: Pocketful of Miracles: Prayer, Meditations, and Affirmations to Nurture Your Spirit Every Day of the Year...

Remembering things has never been my strong point. I remind myself of this often as I age. Some things I remember vividly… like forgetting to do my homework one time in like fourth grade. I have certain things that I do to help me not forget. One of those is setting my alarm clock. It is on- always for my regular schedule. However, when mandatory extra time got issued, I forgot to set my alarm clock for the two extra work days. I woke up when it was time to leave this morning. I put in for an hour personal time so they'd know I wouldn't be there and got ready to go. The end result is that I didn't volunteer to go home early. Tomorrow is another day. I'm happy I woke up when I did and made it through today.  My other happy thing for today is my ten year old grandson, Gideon.  Today he quite happily posed for me so I could have a picture for my blog.  He is dressed to match the foliage.  It is a blessing to be able to live with my daughter and her family. ☮ C...

Memories

When I was a kid, we lived on the outskirts of the White Mountains in New Hampshire. I remember falling asleep to the sounds of crickets and a whippoorwill. Instead of falling asleep, last night I left for work and heard a whippoorwill in the woods outback. For a moment, I was four again, lying in bed imagining some great big bird making that trilling whippoorwill sound over the chirping crickets.  We had a bird identification guide and the picture (drawing) made me think the bird was rather large.  According to the internet , it is a medium sized bird.  Other happy things from today: Another thing that can bring back memories of time gone by is seeing the moon. I seem to have a vague memory from childhood of seeing the moon out during the day and thinking it was a silly time for the moon to be up.   Yesterday I mentioned the smell of the lilacs, today it is here. Many of the blossoms have opened and the tree is spackled with floral splendor. From a distan...

Quiet Day

Image
It was a quiet week while the rest of the family were on vacation.  It was a fairly quiet day today while the rest of the family recovered from the jet lag.  It was quiet until they commented on how quiet it was.  That is when I started yelling, "What?  You want it loud?  I can be loud!  Loud!! Loud!! Loud!! Loud!! Loud!! Loud!! Loud!! Loud!! Loud!! Loud!!  Is that better?!!"  I even stomped my feet for emphasis. 😂  It is good that they are home.  Other happy things for today: My phone and Facebook memories remind me that two years ago I was with Bel and Folke in Texas where we visited Big Bend and then New Mexico where we went to Carlsbad Caverns.  I miss them.  I'm thankful for the memories and the happiness I had that vacation week.   Things in the greenhouse seem to be going well.  I rearranged the plants by which ones seem to be growing and which ones don't.  There is now a shelf and a half of e...
