Harper's First Night

Image
After some morning appointments my day was all about preparing for the SCA event, Harper's Retreat.  Keziah and I spent some time at the studio.  She had last minute sewing repairs and I got the rest of the bands we wove off the loom and ready.  Five of the eight bands will get awarded this weekend and three will be promisaries.  I think that we did well considering we started so late.  Here are a few other happy things from today:       The event site has some cabins to use so we didn't need to set up tents.  Since the temperatures will be in the 40's tonight, that alone makes the cabin more comfortable.  The cabin that we are in also has a bathroom and beds.  Gideon and I are sharing the pull out couch.   It has been nice to see friends.  I got to hang around with one friend for a while and catch up, that was nice. There was bardic (performing arts) in the evening.  I didn't stay long but was there t...

Pennsic Day 8

Image
It was the day to run errands.   Here are some happy things from today: --We have clean laundry.  I'm hoping to be set until the end of the event. --The water softener tank has been exchanged.   I don't need to worry about that running out over the weekend.  The water at the site is so hard it has iron sediment. --There was some heavy rain this afternoon and evening.   Not all the tents in our group stayed dry.  Some folks worked together to make sure everyone is taken care of.  We have good people in our encampment.  --There was a rainbow...before we got rained on. The rainbow was behind us. Storm's coming!  I couldn't act... ☮️ Thank you for being part of my happy things.  Stay safe.

Pennsic Day 5

Image
The first week of Pennsic is about setting things up and preparing for the next week.  Other than some lights and people who have yet to arrive, I feel our little part of the encampment is pretty much set up.   I was finally able to access the schedule and find the things that I am expected to attend and added them to my calendar.  Other happy things from today: --A friend and I walked by the runestone on Runestone Hill.  It is looking well aged. --Seeing the happy faces of people when they arrive. --Walking at night and occasionally hearing people sing around a fire. ☮️ Thank you for being part of my happy things.  Stay safe.

Pennsic Day 4

Image
It was another busy day setting up and trying to get organized.  I finally went through the storage trailer that we keep on site and got almost everything labeled as to who it belongs to.  When things are only seen once a year that can be hard.  Other happy things from today: --The common tent is up.  That means we have more shade available during the day and dry space when it rains.  Two nice men from the camp next to us helped us put it up.  Because of covid, we are only keeping two walls up for shade and the others down for air circulation.  --The only things left to finish setup are digging a fire pit and putting some lights in the common tent.  We bought the firewood today so we are ready to burn. --There was a small rain storm that barely got anything wet.  This was followed by beautiful skies. ☮️ Thank you for being part of my happy things.  Stay safe.

Pennsic Day 3

Image
The majority of my day was spent in camp.  I was either helping with set up in some way or resting and catching up with people.  Set up is taking longer than usual this year.  There are little things that are just being slightly problematic that keep delaying things.   It will all be fine.  Happy things from today include: --Keziah and I sharing tortilla chips and guacamole for lunch.  --Getting my phone charged.   Until more people are here I need to keep it close. --Remembering, before midnight, to practice my DuoLingo.  --The shower got finished today!  That was very welcome.   --Hearing drums in the distance as I prepare for sleep.  --Walking down a dark street at night.  I enjoyed the coolness in the air, the stars and crescent moon, and the peaceful nature of this evening. ☮️ Thank you for being part of my happy things.   Stay safe.

Thursday

Image
Even with a nap, Thursdays seem extra long. My nap today was actually long enough to register as sleep on my FitBit. It doesn't always. It was a good sleep. Other happy things from today: Before work I noticed a blinking light on the floor that the cats were intrigued by. It was a firefly. I did my best to rescue it and let it back outside. I finally requested my vacation time off and it was approved. Yay! Keziah and I had a nice meeting with our chiefs of staff. We are working on plans for upcoming events. Last weekend was the first camping event this year for me. There are at least two more that I am planning on. We are trying to not overdue the events this year. I might get to use my tent this time and have more room. There is a vine climbing up the side of the house.  I knew it had to go, but after identifying it as bittersweet nightshade, it is more important to get it out before the pretty flowers turn to poisonous berries.   ☮ Currently reading: Pocketful of Mirac...

A New Plant

Image
Last night I didn't get to bed as early as I'd like. I'm trying to do better today. I took a covid test before going to work and it was negative. That is a big thing to be happy about. Other happy things for today are: Keziah is planning on camping at an event this weekend. I helped her pull her pavilion out on the grass so it could get some sun. The pavilion looks good! That is important. Gideon and Keziah and Zed mowed some of the lawn today. Less for me to do! The rhododendron plant has started to bloom. There is a plant that came up in the yard that I let grow to identify. It seems to be arabis galbra (tower mustard). It is tall with little flowers on top. Keziah got some really cute new glasses .  They have multiple magnetic covers to change the look of glasses without having to change the prescription. ☮ Currently reading: Pocketful of Miracles: Prayer, Meditations, and Affirmations to Nurture Your Spirit Every Day of the Year , Joan Borysenko.
