Once again I am awake longer than I should be.  At least I am not working tonight.  That is something to be happy about.  Other happy things from today: Sleep was hard last night.  I kept waking up only to find that it was way too early and to go back to sleep.  When my first alarm went off, I fell back to sleep until alarm number two.  Even though I overslept, I made it to work on time. I wished a Happy New Year to a fellow employee on my way out of work and ended up with being told stories from their life.  It was interesting. The sky after the sun had set and there was still some color was quite beautiful.  I'm glad I happened to see it on my way up the stairs. ☮ Currently reading: Pocketful of Miracles: Prayer, Meditations, and Affirmations to Nurture Your Spirit Every Day of the Year , Joan Borysenko. Fall is Over

Happy Winter Solstice! It is Thankful Wednesday. Work gave us food again, breakfast burritos. I'm thankful it was good and that I liked it. Other things I am thankful for: Being greeted by Gideon with a hug when I came home from work today.  I'm thankful for holly, jolly, Christmas movies. I finished watching The Santa Clause 2 after work.  I've finished the initial setup of the new laptop. I need to sit down with both laptops to get all the things I want onto the new one. This might not happen until Christmas.  Only three more work days left in my work week!  This is the last mandatory five day work week for me for a while.  I'm so very thankful for that. The job I have tends to be physically demanding. I’m happy to say that this last week didn’t seem too bad, the tasks I did varied more than usual. I’ve been asking to learn some other tasks for quite a while with no luck for various reasons. A job called Learning Ambassador has recently been opened and I put in a job application for that today. I’m not sure I even want the position, but I am sure that trying to get it was a good thing. My other happy thing for today is that I stayed up long enough to see the sunset. The time change last weekend made it a little easier for me and my weird sleep schedule.  I don’t work on Friday usually so I stayed up a little later on purpose to try to adjust my schedule a little for the weekend. ☮ Currently reading: Pocketful of Miracles: Prayer, Meditations, and Affirmations to Nurture Your Spirit Every Day of the Year , Joan Borysenko. Sorry So Short

Image
It was a beautiful day so I spent some time outside in the yard mowing. This had the added benefit of picking up some of the many leaves that have fallen. I mostly tried to take it easy today. My other happy thing was getting outside for a walk. The fresh air was nice and the sunset was lovely. ☮ Currently reading:  Pocketful of Miracles: Prayer, Meditations, and Affirmations to Nurture Your Spirit Every Day of the Year , Joan Borysenko. Fireworks

Here are some happy things from this beautiful autumn Sunday: Gideon sat by me while I was eating breakfast with a Mad Libs booklet, ready to play. How could I say no? Much giggling and laughter ensued when the character in the story had to save themself from quicksand with a 25 foot long piece of paper. When I am out for a walk and crossing a street I try to nod or wave at the drivers that let me pass. Today I chose to use my earbuds and listen to the book Keziah had recommended,  The Raven Boys, while I walked. I notice a car has stopped to let me by and I wave and see that they are waving me on excitedly. I didn't think much of it other than to try to move a little faster. They pull away and I notice as they drive by that it was Keziah, she stopped to pick me up and I just walked on by! She called a moment after I figured this out. The book was engrossing enough that I didn't see that it was my daughter behind the waving hands. We laughed and I thanked her again f...

Goose

Image
Happy Michaelmas !  Every year a friend of ours makes a point to have goose on Michaelmas (for prosperity) and so I have.  This year it was a little bit of a goose pate (forgive my inability to add the appropriate accents).  It doesn't seem to matter how it is prepared, having had goose for the last few years I still don't care for it. It makes my friend happy though, and that makes me happy.  Other happy things from today: We went to the studio.  Keziah and Gideon went and did things with ceramics and I tried to do things with weaving.  Perhaps I was too tired, because I wasn't able to accomplish much.  Instead I took a nice nap. It can be a sign of stress for a tree when just one branch turns color before the rest of the tree.  I still find the way it looks when that happens to be rather striking. As the sun was setting there was a thin layer of clouds on the horizon that started to turn pink.  There was also a sliver of a moon that I...

Pennsic Day 4

Image
It was another busy day setting up and trying to get organized.  I finally went through the storage trailer that we keep on site and got almost everything labeled as to who it belongs to.  When things are only seen once a year that can be hard.  Other happy things from today: --The common tent is up.  That means we have more shade available during the day and dry space when it rains.  Two nice men from the camp next to us helped us put it up.  Because of covid, we are only keeping two walls up for shade and the others down for air circulation.  --The only things left to finish setup are digging a fire pit and putting some lights in the common tent.  We bought the firewood today so we are ready to burn. --There was a small rain storm that barely got anything wet.  This was followed by beautiful skies. ☮️ Thank you for being part of my happy things.  Stay safe.

Monarch

Image
Keziah and I were able to go to the studio today. I had wanted to spend most of last weekend there but didn't because of covid in the house. Since we are symptomless and so much time has passed, we should be okay. I'm not holding my breath… but we spent some time at the studio today. Here are some other happy things: Keziah has completed the steps she needed in order to start her own business. I think she has done them all anyway. I'm happy for her and proud of her. I was able to take a few hours in the middle of the day and play Minecraft with TF. We each died gloriously, fought monsters, and mined. Kezah helped me to cut fabric for a new chemise to go with the Viking dress I've been making. I started putting some of the pieces together.  Progress was made! The milkweed that I have been letting grow to attract monarch butterflies, finally attracted one today! In order to get my step count, I chose to walk most of the way home from the studio. Along the way I saw a plan...

My day at work did not go as well as I would have liked. I dropped things or bumped into things or things bumped into me. That day is over now and I am happy that my work week is over. Other happy things for today include: Keziah and I are still testing negative for covid! Zed seems to be recovering well and Gideon is in good spirits. We have big plans next weekend, as long as we continue to test negative. As Baron and Baroness in the SCA, Keziah and I have meetings every few weeks with our chiefs of staff. We talk about things going on in the Barony and what we might need or reminders of what we should be doing. Having them close to an upcoming event helps me get into the mindset for the event. It is a fun way to anticipate the fun. This evening I took a short walk just in time to see the sky fade in colors from shades of orange to darkening blues.   ☮ Currently reading: Pocketful of Miracles: Prayer, Meditations, and Affirmations to Nurture Your Spirit Every Day of the Ye...

Layers

Image
This evening I took a two mile walk in town. On the way south on the street I had a lovely conversation with TF. On the way north, the wind was blowing so the conversation ended. Instead I got to watch the sunset. The clouds were layered and the different layers changed colors differently. There were various shades of orange/peach and dark gray lavender and pinks.  Other happy things from today: I’ve been enjoying watching the bulbs, tubers, and rhizomes start to grow in the triangle. I’m kind of wishing I had planted more, but they have room to multiply.  Hopefully the pips will start coming up soon too. One of the cats decided that the bathroom sink looked interesting.  😁 Most of the afternoon I spent at the studio. I printed out a flat cap pattern, made some adjustments, then made the hat–out of an old pillow case. It came out pretty good.  Day 98 of the A&S challenge was making a hat.  It took a lot longer than the 15 minutes needed to complete...

Rainbow

Image
Days away from work can be the best.  Today I slept in, went to the studio, checked out a potential walking place and spent time with my daughter, Kiaya.  There were rainbows, too.  No April Fools pranks here, just some of my happy things from the day: At the studio I again worked on making a flat cap.  It isn't finished but I like the results so far.  This is also day 89 of the A&S challenge.  I'm so close to being done! This is the first day of another challenge I am starting.  For the month of April I am trying to walk a total of 67 miles.  I expect it to be easier this year than last year because I get so many steps at work.  I'm going to try to keep track of my total miles for the day versus my actual walk mileage and see how different they are.  Today's walk was 2.19 miles.  Along the way there was a lovely sunset. I've been trying to plan hikes and today Keziah went with me to check out the trailhead for a hike tomo...

Post Event Day

Image
It was -clean up after the event- day.  Keziah and Zed went early, Gideon and I joined later on.  When everything was cleaned up and things returned to the storage unit, we went out to lunch with the two people remaining.  Great food and friends.   A few other things came to mind from yesterday.   One of the teens from the Barony did my hair.  It came out really nice.  It is a bit worse for wear today but I took a picture to share anyway.  Also, a friend from many years ago came by and we were able to talk for a while.  There were so many people that I didn't get to talk to, I'm grateful to have found time with the ones I did. Other happy things for today: I got out for a nice walk this afternoon before resting for the evening.   The sun turned the horizon orange as it set beyond the hills. For day 63 of the A&S challenge I wove a little bit.  I think I was a bit distracted or tired becaus...

Simplify Your Life Day

Image
Yesterday was the first day of Lent and thus the first day of my personal get-rid-of-stuff challenge.  I picked a shirt that I don't like how it fits me to get rid of.  Ideally I will be flexible with myself, but if I didn't find at least one thing on the first day it would be hard to keep going.  Since I will be busy for the next few days I decided to find six more things today so I can not stress over the weekend.  At some point last year I turned a bunch of my closet hangers backwards.  I read somewhere that if you do that and check on what is backwards after some time the hangers that are still backwards are the clothes to get rid of.   I didn't get rid of everything.  I did find five more shirts though.  I also pulled out a few metal hangers and a mask I haven't worn to get rid of.   I now have a box to take to a donation bin.  Other happy things from today: In the afternoon I took Aesop, our dog, out for a walk....

Studio Sunday

Image
Every day since August 13, 2020 I have reached my 10,000 steps a day goal.  At 10 PM I was still just over halfway there, but I pushed on and reached the goal.  There was much pacing and jogging in place, but I did it.  I'm even more tired, but I am also happy and relieved that the goal was reached.  Other happy things from today: At the studio today Keziah worked on a very orange hood.  The result is spectacular. Sun setting through icicles.                                                                                                                                                     ...

Slow Day

Image
Sometimes things don't go exactly as planned.  Today, for me, that meant I got some chores done and took the rest of the day off.  I had a long todo list that I mostly ignored.  Happy things for today: Aesop and I went for a walk just before sundown.  The sky lit up with violets, oranges, and reds. Daytime moon! I made it to day 40 on the A&S challenge with more of the latch hook. ☮ Currently reading:  Faith Hacker , by James ‘Jim’ Wilcox.
