2022 Happy To Be Here

Planting all the flowering things in the triangle part of the driveway was a brilliant move last year.  There are more tulips blooming as others fade and I can see what I think are the irises and paper whites coming up for when the tulips are no more.  I have plans for taking another section of the yard by the road and filling it with bulbs/tubers/pips/rhizomes/seeds to bring joy next year. Other happy things from today include: -The lights have finally been removed from the Christmas tree we had out front.  We thought the lights were broken, but they are working now that they are coiled up and ready to be stored.  The tree is in a burn pile and all that left me the room I needed for the raised step bed I put together yesterday.    -The geraniums that I have been trying to grow for over a year now look good, but they aren't producing any buds.  I placed them outside next to the raised step bed in hopes that more sunshine will help them flou...

This morning Keziah and I helped some friends get some items out of the SCA Baronial storage unit for an upcoming event. One of these friends is the person that I like to geocache with. We took a few minutes and found a geocache that was in the area. I really should go geocaching more often. There was a lovely tree in bloom near the cache. Other happy things from today: I made it into the front yard today to see the flowers. Somehow the front of the house seems to get the least amount of attention. With the beginning of the yard clean up time of year, I decided to make a different place for yard waste. I mowed down a bunch of Japanese knotweed and put up a partial fence. That is where I’ll be dumping most of the leaves and grass clippings this season. I am pleased with my progress. Sometimes reaching my step goal for the day is tedious as I pace through the house. I'm always happy when I reach that 10,000 step mark though. The pacing is worth it. Other happy things for today include: The tulips I planted last year were a variety blend. As well as random colors there is variation in the bloom time. There will be more opening in the next few days. Keziah and I cleaned the studio today. Things had been brought there without finding places and, well, it needed work. Yesterday's long walk left me feeling weary and I spent most of the morning in bed. Eventually I made it outside. The weather was gorgeous and it was warm. It was the perfect first day of May weather.  Other happy things for today: Bluetts are blooming on the back property. I did some weeding of the triangle. There are fewer Norway maple trees trying to grow there. I'm still loving the tulips. In the evening I visited my friend Amy. We took a walk and watched a movie. As is expected, days off are nicer than days worked.  For some reason I am having a hard time getting back into a routine since getting home from Texas earlier this week. The things I kept doing in Texas, like DuoLingo, I'm still getting done. It is the things I couldn't do in Texas, like water my plants, that I am having a hard time remembering.  Here are some happy things from today: Everytime I come into or out of the driveway I am still loving to watch as the plants get larger and open up.  There is a tulip that looks different, but I am certain it came with the rest that are coming up.  According to Lens (an app) this is a wild tulip or a West Point tulip.   Being at the studio and visiting with friends.  I didn't end up doing anything but organize some things and chit chat, it was nice to be there.  When I got home from work I decided to watch a little more Gilmore Girls .  A few hours later I had completed all there was to watch and was in tears from the show.  I am happy that I have finished this series.  It was good to have something to sit down and watch, but I think I have been less productive because of it.  Other happy things from today: I have slept.  Probably not quite enough still, but I napped and then fell asleep on the couch after dinner while Gideon and Zed watched things. Keziah is away this weekend being an assistant to a friend at a convention.  They arrived safely to their destination after driving all day. Sometimes, what is needed to get a job done are the right tools. During this whole sink, faucet, plumbing fiasco one thing that I realized over and over was the importance of tools. This plumbing problem had gone on long enough. First the drain, then the shut off valve, then the faucet needing to be replaced. The faucet was rusted together and the WD 40 didn't help to loosen the screw holding the faucet to the sink enough. So I pulled out the big tools-power. I pulled out the skill saw and with Zed's help sawed off the faucet. We now have a shiny new working faucet. 💪 With the plumbing problem no longer draining my time and energy, I went outside to check on the spring plants. The daffodils and tulips should be blooming soon.
