Friday Snow

Image
Happy Friday! These long work weeks for me have me forgetting what day of the week it is. Friday means I have one more night to work. I expect it to be busy. Here are some happy things from today: It was ugly Christmas sweater day at work. I wore an ugly Christmas sweatshirt. Most people didn't participate. Some did.  One person had a light up sweater, someone else had a Christmas Kraken sweater. It was nice to see people having fun with it.  We had a plowable amount of snow. I'm still having a hard time with winter this year, but the snow on the trees is pretty.  The picture doesn't show the pretty snow on the trees, just in the yard. Keziah introduced me to the show The Great Pottery Throw Down . It is a pottery competition show. I only watched the first episode and then started watching another Christmas movie. Maybe I'll get back to the pottery show after the holiday.   ☮ Currently reading: Pocketful of Miracles: Prayer, Meditations, and Affirmatio...

Happy December

Image
Normally, Thursday is my last day of the work week. This week, because of the holidays, I have two more ten hour days. For some unknown reason, other than being really tired and achy, I'm feeling pretty good about this. I do plan to put my name on the list for voluntary time off, but from what I've noticed, there is too much work and I shouldn't expect that. Other happy things from today: My after work movie today was Christmas on Mistletoe Farm . It was aimed at kids and was an okay watch. There seems to be no shortage of Christmas movies and series on Netflix.  I'm not sure why, but I have been dreading winter this year.  However, there were snow flurries after work today.  For some reason that made me happy. Just a little bit of snow... The fleece jacket I normally wear at work has a broken zipper so I ordered a new one. It seems to fit and will be nice and warm. ☮ Currently reading: Pocketful of Miracles: Prayer, Meditations, and Affirmations to Nurture You...

Tomorrow (Sunday) is National Earmuff Day

Image
When I downsized last year and went through a box a day it was a daily task.  This year I am trying to be more gentle with myself.  Seven things a week is my goal.  I think I do better with daily goals.  The other day I went through my desk and was able to find seven things to remove from my life.  While putting away laundry today I decided to go through a drawer.  I found six more things that I am getting rid of.  Yay! Other happy things for today include: Snow.  I'm ready for this to be the last of the season, but it sure can be pretty. Keziah and I packed some things into the van to take to the studio tomorrow.  Now that the event is over we can focus more on organizing and setting the studio up.   A&S challenge day 69, I watched a YouTube video that gave instructions on making a pattern.  I made the pattern and wrote down the directions.   ☮ Currently reading: Pocketful of Miracles: Prayer, Meditations,...

Weaving Wednesday

Image
Yesterday's funk is not completely over, but things are looking up.  Here is a little list of things that made me happy today: The job that I was assigned to at work was repetitive and I was aching all over.  The happy part is that I came home early and I feel a lot better now.  Sometimes just stretching out the back is all it takes. After coming home early from work I filled out a job application elsewhere.  It is highly unlikely that I will get offered this job or that the job will allow me to not work weekends, but it is worth the exercise of trying.   It is snowing.  Perhaps the last fresh snow of the season?  It is pretty outside.  I know I will feel different when I am clearing it off the car later.   It is Weaving Wednesday and so I wove.   Day 65 of the A&S challenge is complete.  Only 35 days left of the challenge! ☮ Currently reading: Pocketful of Miracles: Prayer, Meditations, and Affirmations to...

Studio Sunday

Image
Every day since August 13, 2020 I have reached my 10,000 steps a day goal.  At 10 PM I was still just over halfway there, but I pushed on and reached the goal.  There was much pacing and jogging in place, but I did it.  I'm even more tired, but I am also happy and relieved that the goal was reached.  Other happy things from today: At the studio today Keziah worked on a very orange hood.  The result is spectacular. Sun setting through icicles.                                                                                                                                                     ...

Quiet Day

Image
It was a quiet week while the rest of the family were on vacation.  It was a fairly quiet day today while the rest of the family recovered from the jet lag.  It was quiet until they commented on how quiet it was.  That is when I started yelling, "What?  You want it loud?  I can be loud!  Loud!! Loud!! Loud!! Loud!! Loud!! Loud!! Loud!! Loud!! Loud!! Loud!!  Is that better?!!"  I even stomped my feet for emphasis. 😂  It is good that they are home.  Other happy things for today: My phone and Facebook memories remind me that two years ago I was with Bel and Folke in Texas where we visited Big Bend and then New Mexico where we went to Carlsbad Caverns.  I miss them.  I'm thankful for the memories and the happiness I had that vacation week.   Things in the greenhouse seem to be going well.  I rearranged the plants by which ones seem to be growing and which ones don't.  There is now a shelf and a half of e...

They're Back

Image
The first time I went to California was for Christmas in 1985.  My now ex-husband and I went to spend a week with his family.  It was also the first time I touched the Pacific Ocean, the first time I went swimming on Christmas day, the first Christmas that it was warm enough to swim, and the first time I ever picked a fresh lemon and ate it within five minutes.  It was also the sweetest lemon I have EVER had.  Tonight my daughter gifted me with an orange that she picked while visiting California this week.  It was sweet, juicy, and delicious.  Even the texture was more appealing than any grocery store orange I have had. Other happy things from today: There was a snow storm today.  Aesop and I went for a short walk this morning with the snow all around.  Snow would accumulate on Aesop and he would look like a freshly powdered dog and then he would shake it off.  Freshly powdered dog. It was a long drive to Boston in the snow but the fam...

Nor'easter

Image
There was a storm today, a nor'easter, so everyone stayed home.  The wind has been blowing pretty hard so I have no idea how much snow we actually got. My guess is around six inches.  Zed and I shoveled the walkways only once so far, just before dark.  Tomorrow someone is coming to plow the driveway and we will shovel the walkways again.  I am very happy and grateful that I won't have to shovel the driveway.   Other happy things for today: We organized things around the house today.  The Christmas stuff has been mostly down but is now packed up and ready to go into the attic, hopefully tomorrow.  With the organization we were able to push the dining room table against the windows on one side which makes it much easier for me to pace around the house to get my steps.   I took some pictures throughout the day out the same window of the storm.  Here are a few. 10:44 AM 4:23 PM 5:03 PM 10:03 PM I made a delicious corn chowder for...

The Pictures Are Not Quite as Heavy as the Snow

Image
There was a snow storm this morning.  I had an appointment that I couldn't cancel and Zed was gracious enough to drive me to.  We got up early, shoveled, took our time, and made it to the appointment on time.  The drive home was fine for us too.  Zed is a very good driver.  Actually, it makes me nervous to drive with him when the weather is good, but I am comforted when he is driving in the snow.  I don't claim to be rational.  Getting back into the driveway was harder than getting out.  My hands were full with breakfast things when I got home so we didn't shovel right away upon return.  About 20 minutes later I went out and started to shovel again.  At that point the rain had started.  It was so very heavy compared to the early morning shoveling.  I did the walkway and left the rest to the plow person and Zed to finish up.  The happy thing here is that we were careful and had no incidents in this morning's storm....

Moon

Image
There was a bit more than a dusting of snow on the ground when I went to work in the very early hours.  There was also a beautiful setting moon.  The moon is in a Waxing Gibbous phase according to the internet.  It hung low in the sky like a slightly over full bowl of rice, shining a pale orange glow. Bad moon shot. Other happy things for today: There is a frozen mixed vegetable, pasta, & chicken meal in a bag sort of thing that the family had for dinner last night.  They saved some for me to have for my dinner this afternoon after work.   It was yummy and I am glad I saw it when we were shopping. For day nine of the A&S challenge I worked on the latch hook.  I got two rows done while I watched a show on Netflix.   ☮ Currently reading:  Tracking & The Art of Seeing: How to Read Animal Tracks and Sign , by Paul Rezendes. Thank you for being part of my happy things. Stay safe.

Snow Sounds

Image
When I don't work and my schedule adjusts to daytime, I often stay snuggled in bed doing things on my phone. This morning it was snowing outside. I can hear the cars go by. I can tell when the roads are wet. Right now (around 8 AM) I can tell that some snow is staying on the roads and under tires, at least in some spots. There is a muffled crunching sort of sound the tires make when rolling over snow. And yet there isn't. I realize that the crunching was a slower vehicle, probably on the side of the road, turning, or driveway. Most cars are traveling at a reasonable speed, the snow is most likely blowing to the sides, lightweight. The sound is still muffled slightly which tells me that the snow is falling.  Other happy things for today: Day 5: Today the A&S challenge is not an unfinished project.  I found my lucet so I decided to refresh my memory on how to do a lucet braid. There were YouTube videos and multiple failed attempts. Eventually I used a video ...
