NY Event

Image
At some point in the middle of SCA court this afternoon I realized what today is.  It would be the 58th birthday of a friend of mine, were he still here.  I remain sad that he left us.  When I think of him today I am choosing to remember his laughter and sarcasm.  Here are some happy things from today: -Keziah, Gideon, and I are at an SCA event in New York.  We traveled far to be here to help celebrate a friend who will be added to the order of the Pelican tomorrow.  The Pelican is the highest level service award in the SCA.  Gideon got to do youth fighting and I actually got some pictures.  He is wearing the pink helmet. -I've spent time just talking with different friends today and that has been very good. -There were two courts today where people are awarded things.  Some of this today was inspiring for me.  Here are some random pictures from the courts. ☮️ Thank ...

Pennsic Day 13

Image
Every Pennsic I say that I will take more pictures.  I've taken more than some previous, but I have ended a day this time wishing I had pulled the camera on my phone out earlier.  I got my phone out for pictures of a brief field court but didn't for the Heavy List Baronial Champions.  I took pictures of the Baronial Thrown Weapons Champions but not the little bit of the Baronial Fencing Champions that I saw.  A little before dark I remembered to have Keziah take a picture of me in the garb I started making months ago.  The Viking dress is complete, not the chemise.  I wore an older one for today.   Here are some happy things from today: --All the Baronial Championships I attended today were good.  Watching the different Champions from other Baronies compete against each other and give us insight of their thoughts on being a champion as well as Chivalry is enlightening.  It is one of the things that helps remind me of what we ...

Otter's Welcome

Image
It has been a long day with sunshine, laughter, and people. Keziah, Gideon and I went to an SCA event about an hour away in Massachusetts. Gideon had a great time playing with friends and participating in youth fighting. Other happy things from today: It was great to see so many friends that I have not seen for so long. Honestly, it was a little overwhelming too. Still glad I went.  For a little while I just sat under a tree in the shade. While waiting for their Baronial court to begin someone noticed a bald eagle flying overhead. It was a beautiful sight. The weather forecasters were thankfully wrong and the temperatures only rose to the mid 80's where we were. The original forecast I saw called for the mid to upper 90's. There was sheep schtick that is all leading to an event in July where we will have a local war over the sheep. The idea is for it to be fun and I think we are headed that way. ☮ Currently reading:  Pocketful of Miracles: Prayer, Meditations, and Affir...
