Windy Weather

Image
Things at work have slowed down so when voluntary time off was offered, I took it. I'm scheduled and still plan to work tonight. The part of me that likes a larger paycheck thinks I should have stayed at work. The part that finished Christmas shopping with Keziah this morning is very happy.  Other happy things from today: In the quiet before everyone else was awake I was able to weave.  I finished weaving on the award for fencing and I started the next one.   The weather outside is frightful. Winds are gusting such that the rain is sometimes horizontal. If this were snow, it would probably be a Blizzard. Gideon loves the rain and was very excited to just listen to it when he woke up this morning. Yesterday I finished watching The Santa Clause 3 . I don't think I had seen that one before. The Santa Clauses is new this year. It is a series and I watched the first two episodes today.   Keziah brought home my last two pieces of pottery.  They are finis...

More Than Weaving

Image
As I pace the floor to get my final steps for the day in, I often will play games on my phone or check Facebook. Tonight I am writing my blog. This is a more productive use of my pacing time. Yay for productivity!  Here are some other happy things from today: The green and white band I was working on yesterday is finished and I have started the next one.  I totally forgot to take a picture of the finished one before winding it more onto the loom to make room for the next one.  I did take a picture of the next beginnings.  I don't like the Japanese knotweed we have growing on the property.  I do like that it is supplying food for the many bees that were on it today.   We have a shortage of scribes in the Barony. We use scribes to create scrolls for awards. There were some awards that I was hoping to give out this weekend. It may not happen, but I started practicing calligraphy. I'm not good at it, but maybe I'll find the time to make some scrolls....

Milkweed

Image
With temperatures hovering around 90 degrees today I chose to spend most of my time inside.  I wish I could say that I was more productive,  but it is what it is.  I'm calling today a mostly self care day.  Here are some happy highlights from today: --The biggest reason for me to keep milkweed around is the monarch butterfly.   No monarchs for me but I did identify a butterfly called a great spangled fritillary.  This colorful creature was enjoying the milkweed. --I haven't seen any monarch activity but I am happy to report that Zed has.  He saw a caterpillar on the milkweed- the kind that become monarch butterflies. --The bees are really active on the milkweed flowers.                      ☮️ Currently reading: Pocketful of Miracles: Prayer, Meditations, and Affirmations to Nurture Your Spirit Every Day of the Year , Joan Borysenko. Happy Mother's Day!

Image
Mother's Day.  Keziah and Zed went away for the weekend leaving Gideon with myself and Zed's mom.  Today I was gone most of the day and so Gideon had time with his other grandmother.   I was able to spend a little bit of time at the studio.   I've been trying to get some SCA garb repaired and ready for upcoming events.   I was able to use the sewing machine for something today but it turns out hand stitching will be best for most of this outfit.   I've been working on it at home tonight with movies on.  It's been nice.  Other happy things for today: -I planned a walk that friends who were available could join me.  It being a holiday, only one friend was able to come.  We had a nice time walking and chatting.  The weather was practically perfect.  A breeze kept the bugs mostly away and it wasn't too warm or cold. -Both of my children called to wish me a Happy Mother's Day.  Keziah is enjoying her mini vacation a...
