Happy Birthday, Gideon

 Today I got to wish Gideon a happy double digit day.  He was a very happy ten year old today until he realized that almost two of the years of his life were spent during Covid times.  That would be my fault that he did that math.  I'm sorry for that, but very grateful to have such a fantastic grandson.  Here are some other happy things for today:

  • I got out of work early which meant that I had more time at the studio.
  • Here are some pictures of what I put together for Gideon's birthday.
This enclosed binder used to belong to
Gideon's Uncle Bel.

Inside I organized Gideon's 
Dungeon and Dragons spell cards.
He had them in a pile in a ziplock bag.
He was THRILLED to see this.

I bought this dragon scale dice mat and holder.
It is modeled to look like a scroll holder.

Here it is open with the dice I got for him too.
Now he has his own dice and a quiet
place to roll them when we play.
  • Part of Keziah and Zed's Christmas and birthday present this year is a surprise vacation.  They got Gideon a suitcase with some new clothes and Keziah drew up a pretend plane ticket.  They didn't tell him where, but he is allowed to guess.  So far he knows they are going to California.  So many exciting things for Gideon today!




  • For day 32 of the A&S challenge I braided more for the braided rug.  I was able to work on it for a while.  I've been finding that where the strips are sewn together, the person who originally sewed them together (Me at 12 or 14 ish) did a poor job and I have to fix them.  I can hear that other version of me thinking that I'd just fix it when I got there.  I'd be impatient to start.  Little did I know it would be some 40 plus years later.

Snow Sounds

 When I don't work and my schedule adjusts to daytime, I often stay snuggled in bed doing things on my phone. This morning it was snowing outside. I can hear the cars go by. I can tell when the roads are wet. Right now (around 8 AM) I can tell that some snow is staying on the roads and under tires, at least in some spots. There is a muffled crunching sort of sound the tires make when rolling over snow. And yet there isn't. I realize that the crunching was a slower vehicle, probably on the side of the road, turning, or driveway. Most cars are traveling at a reasonable speed, the snow is most likely blowing to the sides, lightweight. The sound is still muffled slightly which tells me that the snow is falling.  Other happy things for today: Day 5: Today the A&S challenge is not an unfinished project.  I found my lucet so I decided to refresh my memory on how to do a lucet braid. Weaving Day

My grandson, Gideon, has been trying to learn magic tricks with cards. He struggles with the slight of hand, and knows it. I admire that he is trying. He also tries to invent new card games. Other happy things from today: My friend, Amy, had a craft afternoon at her house today for just a few people. Most of us had weaving projects. I didn't get as much done as I wanted, but made some good progress on my loom. It was also good to spend time with friends.  Later, at home the family had leftovers from Thanksgiving, including pie for dessert. The pies are almost gone and I have enjoyed them while we've had them.  We also watched a movie together. Spider-Man: No Way Home was a really good movie that Keziah and I had seen, but Gideon and Zed had not. There was laughter in the beginning of the movie and tears at the end.
