Independence Day

Most people have cookouts and watch fireworks, we watch the movie musical 1776. Okay, we had hotdogs cooked outside, but that isn't a given for us. The movie is loosely based on the months leading up to the signing of the Declaration of Independence.  Parts of it they got right, other parts are dramatized.  Other happy things from today include:

  • It is quite possible, for about five minutes, I caught up with the dishes where anything not being used was clean. The dishwasher is broken. I'm usually the person who washes them, they are mostly my responsibility with others pitching on days that I work. All too often there are more dishes to wash when the drying rack is full. We let them air dry, and Gideon puts them away. With five people, it is a never ending cycle. Five minutes is good.
  • So far, Zed's covid symptoms are cold-like. He has only had a mild fever. Keziah and Gideon both tested negative today. These are all things to be happy about. I'll be testing again before work in the morning.
  • The butterfly weed is blooming! It is so pretty and bright. It is not a place I visit often and I have yet to notice a butterfly upon it.

  • More geraniums have bloomed and they are in more colors. I was starting to think there would just be the pink blossoms. Red and white have opened up now too.

Peaches

Snow Sounds

 When I don't work and my schedule adjusts to daytime, I often stay snuggled in bed doing things on my phone. This morning it was snowing outside. I can hear the cars go by. I can tell when the roads are wet. Right now (around 8 AM) I can tell that some snow is staying on the roads and under tires, at least in some spots. There is a muffled crunching sort of sound the tires make when rolling over snow. And yet there isn't. I realize that the crunching was a slower vehicle, probably on the side of the road, turning, or driveway. Most cars are traveling at a reasonable speed, the snow is most likely blowing to the sides, lightweight. The sound is still muffled slightly which tells me that the snow is falling.  Other happy things for today: Day 5: Today the A&S challenge is not an unfinished project.  I found my lucet so I decided to refresh my memory on how to do a lucet braid. Weaving Day

My grandson, Gideon, has been trying to learn magic tricks with cards. He struggles with the slight of hand, and knows it. I admire that he is trying. He also tries to invent new card games. Other happy things from today: My friend, Amy, had a craft afternoon at her house today for just a few people. Most of us had weaving projects. I didn't get as much done as I wanted, but made some good progress on my loom. It was also good to spend time with friends.  Later, at home the family had leftovers from Thanksgiving, including pie for dessert. The pies are almost gone and I have enjoyed them while we've had them.  We also watched a movie together. Spider-Man: No Way Home was a really good movie that Keziah and I had seen, but Gideon and Zed had not. There was laughter in the beginning of the movie and tears at the end.
