NY Event


At some point in the middle of SCA court this afternoon I realized what today is.  It would be the 58th birthday of a friend of mine, were he still here.  I remain sad that he left us.  When I think of him today I am choosing to remember his laughter and sarcasm.  Here are some happy things from today:

-Keziah, Gideon, and I are at an SCA event in New York.  We traveled far to be here to help celebrate a friend who will be added to the order of the Pelican tomorrow.  The Pelican is the highest level service award in the SCA.  Gideon got to do youth fighting and I actually got some pictures.  He is wearing the pink helmet.


-I've spent time just talking with different friends today and that has been very good.

-There were two courts today where people are awarded things.  Some of this today was inspiring for me.  Here are some random pictures from the courts.

Peaches

Snow Sounds

 When I don't work and my schedule adjusts to daytime, I often stay snuggled in bed doing things on my phone. This morning it was snowing outside. I can hear the cars go by. I can tell when the roads are wet. Right now (around 8 AM) I can tell that some snow is staying on the roads and under tires, at least in some spots. There is a muffled crunching sort of sound the tires make when rolling over snow. And yet there isn't. I realize that the crunching was a slower vehicle, probably on the side of the road, turning, or driveway. Most cars are traveling at a reasonable speed, the snow is most likely blowing to the sides, lightweight. The sound is still muffled slightly which tells me that the snow is falling.  Other happy things for today: Day 5: Today the A&S challenge is not an unfinished project.  I found my lucet so I decided to refresh my memory on how to do a lucet braid. Weaving Day

My grandson, Gideon, has been trying to learn magic tricks with cards. He struggles with the slight of hand, and knows it. I admire that he is trying. He also tries to invent new card games. Other happy things from today: My friend, Amy, had a craft afternoon at her house today for just a few people. Most of us had weaving projects. I didn't get as much done as I wanted, but made some good progress on my loom. It was also good to spend time with friends.  Later, at home the family had leftovers from Thanksgiving, including pie for dessert. The pies are almost gone and I have enjoyed them while we've had them.  We also watched a movie together. Spider-Man: No Way Home was a really good movie that Keziah and I had seen, but Gideon and Zed had not. There was laughter in the beginning of the movie and tears at the end.
