1776

It was AMAZING. Keziah, Bel, and I went to see a production of 1776 at the Loeb Theater. If you read my blog regularly, you may remember that we watch the movie 1776 every Fourth of July.

Keziah, me, and Bel.

The curtain.

There was a display to learn
more about the production.

The actors in this production were all women or LGBTQ+. It worked beautifully. There were only a few changes made from what I consider the original. One of those was the addition of part of a letter that Abigail Adams wrote asking that women have the same rights as men. The musical left me overwhelmed with emotions. I wasn't quite sobbing, almost. Other happy things from today include:

  • Driving through a Boston suburb and seeing turkeys walking on the sidewalks around store fronts on the way to see 1776. There is a song in 1776 the movie that asks the question of whether the national bird should be a dove, eagle, or turkey. We sang a few lines. And yes, they included the song in the live production we saw too.
  • Cambridge (and apparently other locations) has a twenty-four hour cookie store, Insomnia Cookies. I chose to have gluten again and those cookies were delicious.

  • Across from the cookie place there was a lovely older looking building.  I went to take a picture of it and they turned off the lights in the bell tower!  Then, they turned on blue lights instead.  :)

  • On the drive home we talked about the play and some things that were different from the movie. I love spending time like this with my family.

Thank you for being part of my happy things. Stay safe.

  1. I will forever associate 1776 with your family and Burbank. I am so happy the three of you got to see it together. What a special experience! Of course you teared up, nostalgia!

    1. Yes, and more. They were able to bring 1776 into the 21st century and show how relevant the issues or similar ones still are today. It was overwhelming and my eyes overflowed.
